Baby Moves In

Baby’s first Halloween when she was awake enough to notice that something was happening was not your major, made-for-television success. Although the movers were only moving across town, somehow they got to our new abode an hour after we did. Worse, they weren’t able to unpack baby’s pumpkin costume until about 11 at night. We would have done well not to leave the costume with them, but perhaps a Halloween of greeting trick-or-treaters at her new front door was enough of an adventure for a 15-month-old. I know that I had gotten stuck on the idea of baby walking around the immediate neighborhood in her little get-up. Though I made an effort not to show it to anyone, I allowed my hopes in that area to swell in the days prior to the big move. I’ve done my best to quietly deflate them today. We did give baby a couple of pieces of candy to mark the holiday, despite our Puritanical anti-sugar stance. She appears to like the new home, sleeping well her first night and again today during her first nap.
