A Goal Worth Pursuing

Some of baby’s most tender requests to be picked up in my arms have proved to be efforts to get her hands on some object she was too short to reach. She has used this ruse to gain access to grapes, cell phones, the cordless home phone, the remote control to the TV, car keys, a tooth brush, and the faucets in both the kitchen and the bathroom. Still, I have not seen through the ruse once – flattered as I am that she wants a hug from, of all people, me. I suppose the goal is never to see through this. And I’m going to say that I’m capable of achieving my goal, for several more years, at least.
