Her First New Year's

I will not claim that baby has much in the way of awareness of the turning of the new year. She may or may not have noticed that various members of her family, although cloistered on a tropical island for the Christmas holiday, raised their expectations of happiness and gratification a notch on this "special" evening. Not that anyone got wild -- far from it. But the odor of desperation that New Year's Eve so often produces may have wafted in her direction once or twice. I will never know.

When she is old enough to know about such things, I will do my best to lead by example in the way of seeing in the new year as quietly and mindfully as possible. It is possible that eating less candy will aid me in my efforts to play Yoda.
