First Step

Baby’s first step was hesitant, but beautiful. Not wanting to leap into the phase of parenthood when we run after our beloved, we hadn’t been practicing as often as we might have with her. Today, however, we kneeled on the kitchen floor (padded with a thick area rug) and took turns sending baby off and welcoming her to her destination. Every journey had drama; every journey had joy. Only one, though, had an unaccompanied step, and it was toward mommy. Baby got that something special was happening and, as for her parents – we could barely believe it was happening. I can barely believe it sitting in my office alone now.
