Toying With Reality
Today, baby played with a few new toys recently given to her by family. They’re learning-oriented, life-oriented toys; one is gendered (sort of) – a miniature kitchen set-up that includes a pretend microwave. Interestingly, the kitchen came equipped with flashing lights and sounds, one meant to replicate the sound of an egg frying in a pan. Baby clearly loves her new world that the toys have created, especially given her ongoing need of distraction from teething pain. Her old, fuddy-duddy dad will probably adjust to the bells and whistles on toys that used to allow the imagination to do a little more, and the ears to do a little less.
