Almost Spring

Though we’ve lived through harsher winters than the one about to end, it turns out that the current year has seen us endure plenty of cold, wind, and snow – and of being more or less locked indoors. How did I determine all of this? By walking outdoors with baby in my arms the last couple of days and letting her drink in the fresh air. The qualitative shift of safety and comfort, which baby sensed in her way, owing to the simple fact that we were in no particular risk of hypothermia or anything else unkind due to the elements was unexpected. And welcome. It was taxing to bundle baby for every walk outside for months; not that it’s all over. (It may snow Thursday and Friday of next week.) But we’ve learned what good’s in store for us, and it’s very good – and very warm – indeed.
