Toys!

I bought baby her first two toys from daddy today: a soft, fuzzy ball about half the size of a soccer ball and wooden blocks in saturated colors and intriguing shapes for making castles and the like. The woman at the toy store wrapped both gifts for me, and when I brought them home to give to baby I cried. My beloved spent a couple of minutes opening them with wide-eyed anticipation and caution, alternately. Both gifts were big hits for the rest of the day. With the blocks, the idea seems to be so far that daddy builds castles and baby knocks them down. An unbelievably intriguing game, it turns out. With the ball, the idea is for baby to sit in daddy’s lap and roll the ball away from her and then have dad retrieve the ball with his long arms (and sometimes legs). Another far-from-dull pastime!
