Ready, Steady, Go
Today I ignored my Lyme symptoms more than usual as a dad about to leave on his first trip with baby, and I’m paying for it. The pain I feel in my eyes so much of the time is both more intense and duller than usual, and everything seems like a big deal. With baby in front of me in her sling, I went about as much of the preparations as I could (kitchen, laundry, etc.) and just gearing up for the night of packing that is about to begin in earnest. We were to have left at the heinously early hour of 7:20 a.m., but the airline switched us to an earlier flight, one that leaves at 6:10. So, in order to get to Kim’s parents’ house in time for her father to get us to the airport on time, we’ll have to leave our house at about 4:15. It all sounds horrible. I’m hoping that the trip will be so shatteringly excellent that all these details will seem like last week’s radio static upon our return.
