Smiling at the Beach

Baby and I went to the beach today, where I carried her in a sling alongside the water. Several passersby stopped to greet us (meaning baby), and all remarked what a beautiful smile she had. I told them how nice it was to hear. At one point during our stroll baby saw a seagull feasting on a clam and exclaimed. I wasn’t sure if she was overjoyed or frightened, so I said a few consoling words just in case. When I looked down into her face to make sure she was alright, her mildly mystified look suggested she’d thought the seagull eating the clam was great.
