Separation Reality

If you hold a baby several hours a day in your lap on a couch, in your arms while walking her to sleep, in a sling while you do chores, and any other time you can – and then you’re separated from her by, say, errands being done by mom with baby, there is a feeling of lack in the middle of your body, as though someone had removed a part of you. The only thing that will repair this condition is to hold baby again. If she laughs while you’re being repaired, the repair will proceed more speedily, and you may laugh, too.
