Ouch

Sometimes when you put teething gel on baby’s gums she playfully nibbles on your finger, which was cute until about four or five days ago. It was still cute then, actually, except it hurt in a way it hadn’t before. Though baby only has a pair of bottom teeth, and they’re only about one-tenth the way in, it turns out that they’re not lacking in sharpness. The wife and I had been joking about how it “kind of hurt” when baby gnawed on your finger, but in the past few days each of us has had moments of pain and fear verging on terror as we wait to see who will be the first to need first aid. I thought I was a winner this afternoon, when I gave baby my finger to gnaw on while I listened to some friends conversing and she let me know that this would be one of the last times I might want to try that – at least without wearing thick rubber gloves. I’ll miss being gnawed on.
