Foot Joy

I recognize that babies, as a general rule, are flexible, sometimes incredibly so. Nonetheless, when I see my four-month-old daughter raise her foot to her mouth and chew on the toe of her pink house slipper I am amazed that someone who is related to me possesses such suppleness. Though I have sometimes stretched every day for months on end, I am in no immediate danger of putting one of my feet in my mouth and to the best of my knowledge I have never been. Meanwhile, having “found” her feet several weeks ago, baby’s fascination is showing no signs of waning. She puts one foot or the other in her mouth when they’re in socks, slippers, or nothing at all. Every variety is tasty, evidently. I’ll be happy for her if she remains so flexible and, if not, we’ll show her pictures of her early life as a yoga master.
