Watery Milestone

Baby’s feet have both been in the Atlantic – briefly. Having done more errands with her than usual on a warmer day than usual for early May, I took her to the beach around 3 this afternoon. She was tired, but resisting a nap. I knew we didn’t have long. I walked her past a few scattered sun-bathers and to the water’s edge. After letting her take in the scene for a couple of minutes, I lowered her so that just her toes touched the 51-degree water. She was a little confused, and a little frightened. After all, the bath at home feels nothing like this! But while strolling with my own feet in and out of the lapping waves, I tried to sell the refreshing feel to her a few more times – briefly – and I think I got her all the way to neutral before it was time to go home.

Her nap, not long after, was half in the crib by herself and half on dad in the familial bed. Precious moments.
