Balancing Act -- Part I

One of baby’s aunts recently gave her a miniature kitchen, as I mentioned in a recent post. Made of plastic, standing about twenty-inches tall, equipped with a variety of blinking lights and sound effects, the kitchen is also a stupendous tool for balancing – if you happen to be learning how to stand on two feet. Yesterday, baby stood beside her kitchen, hands resting on top, for five seconds, as her mom hovered with her own hands a few inches away. Today, baby repeated her performance for dad, albeit a much-abbreviated version. That my daughter should use her trainer-kitchen to become an athlete and independent woman seems like a beautiful thing to me. If she wants to learn how to cook with a real stove in a real kitchen, her mom and I will be there to help her when the time comes.
