Mountaineering

Getting baby to take her third nap today was my personal conquest of Everest. Dancing, feedings, teething ring and teething gel use, acupressure, singing, walking, holding, exercising and then – yes – suddenly, she was out. After sitting with her on my chest for a few minutes to get her more fully asleep, I lay her in the bassinet and quietly exhaled. Perhaps if I weren’t fighting Lyme disease it all would have seemed easy. But perhaps not.

Still, the joy baby shows at the end of days like today seems proportional to the commitment the day required, as though she had climbed Everest, too. Which, of course, she did.
