Still Learning

By the time my wife got home from work today, I was one frazzled stay-at-home dad. Teething pain required that baby be held more than usual, made it harder to feed her, and left her and me both at a loss for words. Somehow, though, when mom came home, the day turned a corner, and the three of us were soon sitting at the kitchen table eating dinner, happy as could be.

Baby’s primary excursion today was a few miles up the bay to watch them demolish the old Jamestown Bridge with explosives. We were close enough to see well, and protected by the sound of the detonation by a stiff crossing wind. So far as baby was concerned, it was an hour of being held in a sling by dad on a sunny spring day. She made a few friends, as she does everywhere she goes. Still, part of me wishes I’d skipped the “historic” event and just taken the little muffin to the park.
