Painful Learning Experience for Dad

The fall: baby tumbled from the couch where she was sitting next to her dad. Onto her head. On the floor (carpeted, thank God). One of the three worst moments of my life so far. I’d been distracted, briefly, and that’s all it took. Baby wailed. I called baby’s mom who thought, yes, it would be a good idea to call the doctor. I called the doctor, answering a nurse’s questions and feeling hopeful and terrified by turns. The nurse said there was no need to bring baby in but to watch for drowsiness, nausea, and crankiness. None materialized. A quick check with fellow-parents revealed that babies do fall, that it’s terrible. It is terrible. May today’s be the worst fall baby has to experience.
