Feed Me

Though solid food won’t be part of baby’s life for at least a couple of months more, you wouldn’t know it from the way she has taken to looking at the food on mommy and daddy’s plates. Sitting on either of our laps, her eyes follow fork from plate to mouth, widening with anticipatory homing intention as her mouth opens almost imperceptibly wider. Her thousands of generations’ worth of instinct cannot tell her that breast milk is the most perfect, and quite sufficient, food for her until six months. Instinct tells her instead that some spaghetti with red sauce and chicken parmesan would be fine right now. Just put it in my mouth now, etc. It will be a great joy for all when the time comes.
