Stuck in Suburbia?

Baby set a personal record today for being taken in and out of her daddy’s truck. A serious day of errands, including looking at potential new neighborhoods for the family closer to the city, led to an in-out shuffle I hope not to see repeated anytime soon. She took it all in stride, letting me joke her into smiles and laughs at most junctures. But the two-hour nap she had on my chest at the end of the day suggested she’d gotten pretty tired during it all.

Her mom and I were city people when we met, and we’re playing with the idea of raising a city girl – to cut mom’s commute, increase our proximity to the art and music scenes, and lessen the likelihood of Lyme disease. I have to say, though, that just taking baby in and out of a vehicle away from the calm of suburbia was stressful. All the steps taken to create comfort in an urban environment, years ago, feel contrary to the peaceful vibe we’ve been striving to create for our daughter.
