How Good Can Puree Be?

One of the things that has happened since I became a stay-at-home dad is I’ve become someone who cooks food from scratch as often as ten or twelve times a week. Now that baby is eating solid food, so-called, she’s paying ever greater attention to what her mother and I eat. And she seems to have a pretty good idea that pear-blackberry-banana puree might not have as much to recommend it as, say, spaghetti and meatballs or Cuban pork stew. Not that a 7-month-old’s palate needs anything too spicy or overpowering, but she seems clear that the satisfaction we’re getting from food may be because of what the food we’re eating is. I cannot wait to feed her the best food I can prepare, to share family meals with her without restrictions. If I’m honest, in the meantime, I must admit my princess seems pretty happy sometimes with her puree.
