Kissed By the Sun

Baby was in the sun for twenty minutes today on two separate occasions. In the morning we went to the beach, and in the afternoon we went to the park. The wind was blowing at the beach, but baby was wrapped up in her sling and seemed to like her hair moving about with the breeze. At the playground, she rode the swings (the park was less crowded, and way more calm, today) and went down a couple of slides, a couple of times each.

When I was a baby in the mid-1960s, moms and dads didn’t have to think about sun exposure and ozone depletion. I’ve yet to slather baby in sun block, preferring instead to limit the time she’s in the sun, but I know the day is fast approaching when we’ll need to cover the little muffin in what is, in a sense, a miracle cream. I just wish the miracle weren’t necessary.
