Moo

We’re pretty sure that baby purposefully reproduced the words “duck” and “moo” today. That lets you know that we’re pretty focused, suddenly, on teaching her in a way we have not previously been and that, like generations before us, we’re focused on animals and animal sounds in a way that can only be described as primal. Baby is, after all, more likely to be spending time with cell phones, computer work stations, and iPods than she is with geese, ducks, or cows. But the collective desire for closeness to the land permeates children’s literature, and that’s probably not a bad thing. Baby does get to pet her animals, the family dogs, on a daily basis. I hope that we are strong enough parents to get our daughter onto farms and into nature as often as she deserves. In the meantime, we’ll all practice saying “moo” together.
