Thanksgiving 2005
The snow I’d hoped for this morning missed us by five miles. That’s what we learned when we drove north for Thanksgiving festivities at my wife’s grandparents’ house. We came around a bend, and suddenly there was an inch of snow on the ground. It’s not as though I woke three times in the night to see the season’s first snowfall, both for the usual reason (an obsessive love of the stuff) and for a new reason (to bring my daughter outside to let snow fall on her face for the first time).
We’ll have snow. In the meantime, baby survived being passed around like a football at her first Thanksgiving today. Would you or I have fared so well? We do what we can to provide her with a cocoon, but, family being family, it was still a bit of a lateral drill. We gave her all the quiet we could at the end of the day, and know some good will come of her first Thanksgiving. At least she’s one step closer to being able to eat her first Thanksgiving turkey a year from now.
