Not the Time for Poker

Baby is so surrounded by family that I feel like I can’t get any face-time. She deserves to be a celebrity, of course; nonetheless, I’m already looking forward to returning home so that I can get a hug a little more often. Tonight, I thought I would try a little male bonding with my brother-in-law and father-in-law by playing some poker. I was momentarily up, then down, and broke even (just about) in the end. But in the meantime, baby came into the kitchen where we were playing a few times and I felt unclean in her eyes. I’m not even overtly moralistic about card-playing, and have laughed at others’ high-and-mighty moral fervor about the demon cards, but I still felt unclean when I saw my baby’s face and don’t plan on repeating the experiment anytime soon.
