Special, Safe, and Loved
Baby spent much of her first Mother’s Day with relatives on her mom’s side of the family. On past occasions in their midst, baby had chosen not to open up, or, for the most part, be very happy. Today, perhaps because we were on baby’s home turf, things went better. Baby laughed and smiled at each individual, played with her cousin of nearly the same age, and showed off her development skills by crawling around the floor with a plastic toy in her mouth in order to bring it somewhere else. In a sense, Mother’s Day is Baby’s Day, I think, and baby seemed to know a little bit about that. Would that I could insure that she felt equally special, safe, and loved every minute of every day for the rest of her life.
